60 Years of fashion journalism excellence – A tribute to Vogue Italia
Celebrating its 60th Anniversary milestone is Vogue Italia - a magazine that has left a lasting impact not only in the world of fashion but beyond that, we cannot but anticipate a huge commosion in the publicity world. From its inception in 1964, Vogue Italia has consistently been a trailblazer in the realms of fashion and art trends by challenging norms and creating positive impact along the way.
Since its inception, as Novità and later transformation into Vogue Italia in 1966 the magazine has always been a part and parcel in the realm of fashion journalism. Over the years it hasn't merely documented the evolution of fashion, but it has also influenced it by setting trends and making a creative miracle. The rich legacy of the publication is a testament to its enduring significance and progressive outlook.
The key figures who shaped its trajectory are deeply connected with the heritage of Vogue Italia magazine's legacy. The magazine’s first editor Franco Sartori laid the foundation for its success. However, it was Franca Sozzani’s leadership that steered Vogue Italia towards becoming an “icon” in creativity. During Sozzanis tenure, she introduced groundbreaking themes such as the 2008 issue showcasing exclusively models. This move championed diversity, and sparked conversations about inclusion, in the fashion world.
Vogue Italia has put together events and projects to mark the occasion of the “60 Years Anniversary” and look ahead, to the future with respect to its rich history and exciting prospects. One highlight of these celebrations is the Nouvelle Vogue Film Festival – an event that delves into the enduring influence of fashion, through the lens of cinema. In addition, the magazine has published a unique collector's edition showcasing six famous cover stars, captured by the renowned photographer Steven Meisel.
The perfect highlight of the events was a gathering held at Palazzo Citterio, in Milan from September 19 to 21 during Fashion Week festivities in collaboration with the Milan Municipality and the National Chamber of Fashion organizations, welcoming fashion enthusiastsindustry influencers and the general public to honor Vogue Italia’s influence, on the fashion scene.
The main focus of the festivities centered around the exhibition titled "Six Decades of Vogue Italia. A Glimpse, into the Future." Supervised by Ferdinando Verderi – a director at the magazine – the showcase offered a firsthand experience of the publications illustrious history. Attendees were invited to engage with the arrangement of the exhibit which featured cover photos, cutting edge fashion editorials and significant moments spanning over those 60 years.
The exhibition was designed to be interactive and immersive to allow visitors to not only witness but also actively participate in the history of Vogue Italia through a variety of multimedia displays showcasing, behind the scenes content and personal anecdotes from renowned figures in the fashion industry. Moreover, the event included a variety of unique activities and discussion panels. These talks involved well-known fashion designers, photographers, and models who have made contributions to the magazine in the past.
